KCCA to covert city centre roads into non motorized transport corridors

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has contracted DOTT Services to convert seven roads in the city centre into non motorized transport corridors.

The KCCA Director of Engineering and Technical Services Eng.Justus Akankwasa said the initiative is aimed at deepening trade and easing movements in the city centre.

Speaking to Kigezi News in an interview, the Director said that foot walking and bicycle riding would make Kampala a liveable and likeable city adding impetus to the fight against Non Communicable Diseases.

Eng. Akankwasa named the roads to be converted into Non Motorised as Market Service Lane, Market Street, Duster Street, Burton Street, Wilson Road, William street and Sikh Road.

The Dott Services Project Manager Eng. Dhanaraju said that the completed roads will have Walk ways, Bicycle parking lots, Ducts for utility lines, Flower beds,
Sitting arena, and Bicycle/cycle lanes.

Dhanaraaju said that they are waiting for the employer KCCA to provide the final road designs so that they complete the works within the 18 months contract period.

Dhanaaraju said that they will prioritize working at past 10pm so as to minimize disruptions to commerce, movements and traffic order in the city centre.
