US award winning artist Gigi Lamayne sparked an argument on Twitter with remarks on fallen Zimbabwean former president Robert Mugabe.
In a tweet, Lamayne said: A great idealist. A bad executor. It’s a love hate thing here. To the next life. #RIP Mugabe.
The tweet opened the doors for an open debate with Lamayne from her followers whose submissions weren’t to her liking.
One follower objected to Lamayne’s assessment of Mugabe thus: He wasn’t a bad executor. It’s just just that the slave masters who control the economy and every thing were against him, that’s why he didn’t succeed.
Another critique of Lamayne commented on her tweet in objection.
“I disagree, his execution was perfectly fine, It’s better than what white people did to us,” the tweet read in part.
An African follower said, “Under his regime, many Ndebele people were killed by instruction.”
While Mugabe who passed away on Saturday is celebrated for his early exploits, many believe his later years in power were defined by tyranny and absolutism.
