UGANDA’S PRIME MINISTER MOURNS THE DEFENDER OF BAKIGA CULTURE

Rt Hon Dr Ruhahakana Rugunda, Uganda’s Prime Minister has joined many Banyakigezi in eulogizing the Late Festo Karwemera 95 who cut his retirement years to dedicate them to defending the Banyakigezi culture.

Rt Hon Dr Rugunda described the late as an individual that will not be replaced easily.

“Kigezi,Uganda&Africa has lost a legend, Omugurusi Festo Karwemera.He lived an exemplary life as a teacher, public servant, researcher, author&custodian of our rich cultural heritage.We celebrate his life&contribution&thank God for giving him a long& impactful life. Rest in Peace”said Rugunda

 

The Late Festo Karwemera authored many Rukiga books that will keep his legancy.

Dr Kenneth Omona Olusegun, the Principal Private Secretary to President Yoweri  Museveni mourned a man who helped him learn the language even if he came from Eastern Uganda. 
“In solidarity , celebrating the life and times of Omugurusi Karwemera. When I first worked in Kabale, Omugurusi Festo was contacted to help me learn some basic words in Runyankole – Rukiga. He cautioned me against using Mzee but Omugurusi . Rest In Peace”,said Omona.
Some of the prominent books include the Katondoozi (Dictionary) which he co-authored with President Yoweri Museveni, translating the Holy Bible and the constitution of Uganda in the local language.
