Uganda Police To Retrieve CCTV Footage After a People Power Supporter Dies In Kampala City

The death of Ritah Nabukenya a people power supporter allegedly caused by a motorcycle or a reckless Ugandan Police Patrol Van in Kampala has caused anger in Uganda. Its difficult to tell because eyewitnesses and police say different things.
However, Uganda Police Leadership has promised to release the CCTV footage so that the country knows the truth. Recently government of Uganda procured CCTV cameras to make sure they are helped to sort murder cases but also fight criminality.
Towards midday on monday morning(24th) social media posts announced the death of a young lady who died linked to people power movement.
The day started with several events involving Hon Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine leader of people power movement that is competing for political power in Uganda.
The late Ritah Nabukenya was on a motorcycle heading to court in the City Center to support people power leaders who are accused of fighting social media tax in Uganda.
Dr Emmanuel Serunjoji, the Mayor of Kawempe Division called for an independent investigation because police cannot do it as its staff are involved.
“I have painfully failed to come to terms with the death of Ritah Nabukenya, a Comrade who on monday died in very unclear circumstances while travelling on a motorcycle(boda boda)”.
Serunjoji said police claims she fell off a motorcycle which collided with another in areas of Nakawa division and later died at Mulago National Refferal hospital.
However eye witnesses say the police patrol car trailed the deceased and her rider causing the accident. In her last public appearance, the late Ritah Nabukenya was asking people power motorcycle riders to ride carefully, little did she know her death would come as a result of the same.
Kampala Metropolitan Police gave a press statement surrounding the unfortunate death of Ritah Nabukenya.
“There was an accident at around 8:00am behind Nakawa division market in Kampala City. Motorcycle UEY 675P was trying to overtake our patrol car vehicle number UP 4841, but unfortunately collided with another motorcycle whose registration was not captured because the owner fled the scene”.
The passenger on motorcycle UEY 675P was later identified as Ritah Nabukenya a resident of Bunamwaya , who sustained serious injuries after she fell off the motorcycle. The patrol car rushed her to Mulago National hospital, the police statement reads.
“We have gotten to learn that Ritah Nabukenya succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the accident and passed on. We have recorded statements from eyewitnesses and crew of the 999 patrol vehicle, retrieve the CCTV footage to confirm what exactly happened”.
Prossy Namaganda a sister to the deceased said she had called her for her red attire while returning from Mukono but unfortunately died before seeing her. She later found her in hospital before breathing her last.
Parts of Kampala City center came to a stand still at People power supporters staged protests demanding for the body of the deceased. The body was released later in the evening transported to her her home under tight security.
Late Ritah Nabukenya will be buried in Kiboga district. People power leadership and supporters have escorted the body.
