UGANDA MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT APOLOGIZE FOR PRESIDING OVER BEATING UP A CONTRACTOR OF ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY UMEME OVER ALLEGED POWER THEFT

Hon Thomas Tayebwa ,the Member of Parliament Ruhinda North has apologized to Ugandans after he was exposed in a video ordering the lashing and stripping naked of Bonny Bukenya a contractor with Uganda’s main electricity distribution company, UMEME.

“The whole thing is bad when you watch the video a Member of Parliament who is the custodian of the laws of Uganda ordering the torture of a citizen, asking his workers to remove his under wears so that they lash his buttocks”

SP Patrick Onyango, Public Relations Officer Kampala Metropolitan Police says they noted that one Bonny Bukenya was also assaulted at the site in the presence of Honourable Thomas Tayebwa and they had a video clip to that effect. Investigations into the alleged assault is ongoing.

Hon Thomas Tayebwa a Member of Parliament and Member of Council at Makerere University has had two days pondering on an incident that cast him in bad light and will be describe him for years. Human rights organisations will always call this an act of torture for an employee of Umeme.

“over the last few days, my staff and I have been struggling with unfortunate incident that happened at our construction site in Busabala….we wish to apologize to the nation for this unfortunate incident”, said Tayebwa in a signed statement.

Police received a phone call from Kelly Mucunguzi, the site manager for Honourable Thomas Tayebwa and informed them that they had arrested some thieves at the construction site at Kigo.

Police responded and went to the scene where they found that they had arrested two men  Bonny Bukenya and Edward Masembe.

They were taken to Katwe Police Station together with the manager of the site for a follow up investigation.

At police, it was established that the duo, who had been arrested, were not thieves, but employees of Mutiico Tecnical Services Limited, a company contracted by Umeme to carry out maintenance on their lines.

They had gone their on official duty to disconnect the site over illegal power connection.

Police noted that one Bukenya was also assaulted at the site in the presence of Honourable Thomas Tayebwa and they had a video clip to that effect.

Before police could address the Nation, meetings and negotiations involving politicians and unseen forces could have overwhelmed Bonny Bukenya.

“i have had a meeting a meeting with Hon Thomas Bukenya who has apologized to me and my family over the matter….we have talked at length and i have agreed to withdraw all accusations against him”, said Bukenya.

Harsh tag #JusticeForBukenya,#Umeme #Tayebwa started trending on social media Ugandans questioning what has become of a leader at a level of parliament.

Bukenya thanks all those people who took up the matter on my behalf and brought it to the limelight.

Recently,  Uganda’s Envoy to Burundi, Brigadier General Matayo Kyaligonza’s guards were seen on a video slapping a traffic officer in Mukono Municipality.

While campaigning for Central Executive Council of National Resistance Movement had a government Minister campaign against Brig General Kyaligonza.

“Voters are asking me whether i will be slapping women when i go to CEC”, said Hon Baryomunsi.

Hon Chris Baryomunsi won with a landslide.

Has Tayebwa averted a political tsunami on him a week before NRM’s party primaries for Member of Parliament.
