Ahead of Sunday’s presidential election run off, jailed Tunisian presidential candidate and media mogul Nabil Karoui will be released imminently.
Karoui’s lawyer says the jailed presidential candidate will be released a few days to the second presidential election on 13th October.
His release follows a successful appeal lodged by his defence team with the courts.
According to Bechi Ferchichi, the head of Mr Karoui’s defense team, Karoui’s release is expected immediately.
Mr Karoui was arrested on 23 August on charges of money laundering and tax evasion but has criticised his detention as political.
He had demanded that the run-off be delayed in order to allow him to campaign across the country.
He came second in the first round of the presidential election.
Following last month’s first-round vote, he is one of two political outsiders to compete in Sunday’s run-off vote to become Tunisia’s next president.
Kais Saied, an independent candidate and law professor, won 18.4% of the vote, while Mr Karoui received 15.6%.
