RAID ON MAKERERE UNIVERSITY BY ARMY REVIVES ERA OF PRESIDENT AMIN DADA ON NIGHT ARCHBISHOP LUWUM WAS KILLED 1977, STUDENTS BRUTALIZED.

MILITARY RAID ON MAKERERE UNIVERSITY IN UGANDA AFTER 43 YEARS WHEN PRESIDENT AMIN BRUTALIZED STUDENTS

“Professor” Barnabas Nawangwe,a Russian trained architect and Vice Chancellor of Makerere University has been condemned across Uganda and Internationally for authorizing Military forces to crack down on students who claim they were raped and maimed.

Like other fearless girls across the globe, Speria Mollie Saasiraabo, the head of the 85th Guild Female Caucus Makerere University led 15 other female students on a peaceful strike protesting a 15% increment on their tuition.

The peaceful strike turned for worse when the military arrested the female students violently and spread across the University. The protests have rocked the University for the last 4 days; media banned from the University.

Meanwhile, Speria Mollie Saasiraabo is fighting for her life in hospital after being beaten by alleged agents of university leaders who are being challenged.

The Gender based violence tragedy has hit the country, but banning media means Uganda is going to witness hidden gender violence, the victims will be silent, fearing for their lives and further violence.

Marion Kirabo, Minister of Gender, Ethics and Integrity Makerere University was particular on who threatened them.

“On Monday evening, one of my female colleagues was summoned by Prof Hisaali, the Principal of the College of Business and Management Sciences to warn her that he would switch off security cameras during the peaceful demonstration on Tuesday, 22nd October, 2019 and beat them up to pulp should they go ahead with the demonstration. The demonstration is against the annual cumulative 15% tuition increment”.

Last night, 24th October, 2019 news broke out of the kidnap and severe beating and possibly rape to near death of Siperia Mollie Saasirabo, and the subsequent night raid of Lumumba hall and Marystuart Hall last night.

Students were indiscriminately bartered, both female and the disabled alike. While Mollie has not fully regained her consciousness to recall of the trauma she might have gone through, the events preceding her condition can only lay for us a clear case for the investigation of Prof Hisaali in regard to her condition.

Apart from Mollie other 60 students were injured, after some had earlier complained of threats, intimidation and blackmail from University Management.

To add salt onto the injury , the dean of students, Cyriaco Kabagambe earlier on issued a letter withdrawing Mollie’s candidacy from representing Makerere University as a female delegate at the Uganda National Students Association.

Marion Kirabo condemned such violence , physical and psychological torture against female in institutions of learning by patriarchy that feels privileged to take advantage of woman’s vulnerabilities and fears to tear them apart from progressing in society cannot continue to be looked on.

Hon Joseph Ssewungu Gonzanga , Kalungu West MP in Uganda Parliament says Makerere University Vice Chancellor should resign for failing to manage the University.

Early this year, the University failed to open as the same Vice Chancellor suspended close to 50 Professors and lecturers. It took intervention of Parliament and Cabinet to have the ruthless Professor go on table to discuss.

Our next article will show how President Idi Amin Dada sent the military police at Makerere University the night when Archbishop Janani Luwum was killed.

“The evening of February 16, 1977, the day Archbishop Janani Luwum was murdered, was very unusual at Makerere University.
Save for a handful of students making their way either to or from the library, the roads were unusually deserted. Male traffic to Mary Stuart or Africa Halls was down to a trickle. The main hangout, the Guild Canteen, was equally deserted.

Instead students were gathered in small groups around their halls of residence. Discussions were being held in either whispers or very low tones”.

Are the dark days back at Makerere University that is led by a Russian “Professor” Barnabas Nawangwe.
