Thirteen members of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese district were arrested on September 27 for allegedly holding unlawfully assembly in the newly created sub county of Kahokya.
The party officials were arrested by Katwe police in Kabirizi where they had planned to hold their party mobilization meeting.
Among the arrested is Kasese District Secretary for Social Services Ruth Kabugho, Bugoye Sub County Chairperson Abdul Saad, FDC’s secretary for Mobilization Ronald Kabuuku, former Busongora South Parliamentary Aspirant Sedrack Bakulirahi.
Other members are Joad Makoma, Abdullah Sinjagholo, Kikoho.
They are currently detained at Kasese Central Police Station after they were transferred last evening from Katwe Police in Lake Katwe Sub County.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson Vincent Twesige confirmed their arrest but pledged to give an official comment later during the day.
The FDC Chairperson for Kasese Saul Mate confirmed the detention of his party colleagues whom he said were arrested for what police called unlawful assembling as they were trying to constitute FDC party structures in the newly created sub county of Kahokya.
Mate however said efforts are underway to secure their release.
