At least 25 couples on Saturday exchanged marriage vows in a mass wedding organized by the South Ankole diocese at St Mathew cathedral Kyamate the sixth time the diocese organizes a mass wedding since its inception in 2012.
The wedding presided over the diocesan Bishop Rt Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe attracted several couples of different age groups including a couple that had spent 49 years together without officially exchanging marriage vows.
Some of the wedded in the mass wedding were politicians, farmers and local businessmen. Other 7 couples were wedded from the church on the day separately. Ahimbisibwe asked the couples to seek salvation for their lives if they wish to be committed to their marriages and overcome challenges they face or have faced in the past.
Mr Fred Rumasha 78 and his wife Kakundire Violet 68 were the oldest couple in the mass wedding. They have been together for the past 49 years. The Bishop said the mass wedding was also giving back to the communities the church benefit from a reason why they wed them without wanting them to incur any costs.
The church prepared for the couples a reception party, a cake for cutting and a brass band for matching. At least 7 cows were slaughtered for the reception.
