Nicki Minaj shocks world with retirement announcement

World renown US rapper Nicki Minaj shocked the world Friday with an announcement that she is retiring to have a family.

The rapper Onika Tanya Maraj born December 8, 1982 professionally known as Nicki Minaj is a Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper, singer, song writer, record producer, actress and model.

Born in St James Port of Spain, and raised in Queens, New York City, Nicki gained public recognition after releasing mix tapes ‘Playtime is over’ (2007) ‘Sucka Free’ (2008) and ‘Beam me up Scotty’ (2009)

Nicki went on to sign with Young Money Entertainment in 2009, releasing her first studio album ‘Pink Friday’ (2010) which peaked her at number US Billboard 200 and was ultimately certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Minaj made her film debut in 2012 in the animated film ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift. In 2013, she was judge on the twelfth season of American Idol.

She released her second album ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ that debuted at number one in several countries in 2012.

Her third album ‘Pink Print’ came out in 2014. She has also played supporting roles in films including: ‘The Other Woman’ (2014) and ‘Barbershop: The next cut’ (2016)

In 2016, Minaj was included on the annual ‘Time 100’ list of the most influential people in the world.

Minaj whose rapping is distinctive for its fast flow and use of alter egos and accents primarily British cockney was the first female artist to be included on MTV’s annual Hottest MC list.

While her solo albums have sold millions, her collaborations as just as impressive.

For a star who is known for bold sometimes conflicting statements, Nicki Minaj’s tweet of retiring announced yesterday can be taken with a pinch of salt.

Meanwhile, if her statements are to be believed, it will be down to a secret marriage with Kenneth Petty.
