Mbarara gripped with insecurity

Due to the growing insecurity between Mbarara University of science and technology and Law Development Center LDC Mbarara branch, around the students’ hostels, the Mbarara District security committee has set resolutions to curb the growing crime around areas of their residences.

Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police spokesperson explained that as security team they have agreed to have joint night patrols intensified both foot and motorized by UPDF and Police in areas where these students reside. 

He noted that also Crime Intelligence and Internal Security  Organization ISO are to carryout covert operations for intelligence gathering to identify criminal elements.

Police have also activated the University Police post of Mbarara University of Science and Technology  MUST for quick response and to mainly focus on students’ problems which is commanded by the Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Kasasira said security team in conjunction with the University authorities are to workout modalities to have all hostels inspected but also engage hostel owners on security of their premises especially with lighting.

On that note students have been mobilised and sensitized on their personal security both at hostel and on their movements to and from the university who shared telephone contacts with police for timely response in case of emergencies.

The decision was reached on shortly after the murdering murder of Brian Akampurira a second year medical student of Mbarara University of Science and Technology last week by an known assailants while on his way to hotels in Taso village cell  Kakoba division Mbarara Municipality
