By Innocent Atuganyira Masindi

Speaking at the official launch of disbursement of funds on Wednesday afternoon at King George Stadium Masindi in Bunyoro Sub Region, Moses Kalyegira the Masindi district Commercial Officer said nine SACCOs out of fifty four have been cleared to get money.

He also said the bank has to clear the resolutions by the SACCO before giving out the money. “The legal team of the bank has to look into them and again send them to the ministry of trade for verification then give you a go ahead and withdraw the money,” He explained.

Kalyegira also noted, “So far nine SACCOs have met the requirements from the three constituencies of Masindi municipality, Bujenje county and Buruli, and have already received shs 132 million after being cleared.” He also noted that clearing of SACCOs is still on going, and they couldn’t be cleared at the same time. He further noted that SACCOs should have saved 30% of the money you are asking for.

The official giving out of the money was launched by the Resident District

Commissioner Masindi Ms. Rose Kirabira who warned the beneficiaries against misusing the funds. He advised the SACCOs members to use this capital to move out of poverty and also develop the culture of saving, and this will push up for their SACCOs but not wasting money.

Ms. Kirabira also asked the beneficiaries to report the people who are attempting to mismanage the money within the SACCOs such that an action can be taken. She also warned the beneficiaries and the leaders against politicizing

government program adding that people need to switch their minds to work instead of spending a lot of time talking about politics.

Kate Gafa the Masindi municipality town clerk appealed members to use the money effectively to enable them attract more support from government adding that this can be achieved when there is a good saving culture and financial discipline.

Masindi district has so far received 1.6 billion for Emyooga funds.
