Nagirinya, 28, went missing on Wednesday night when unknown gunmen forcibly took her as she approached the gate of her home in Busega, a Kampala city suburb. Her body was found with cuts on the head. Bodies of two missing persons, suspected to be those of Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimbwa have been found in Nakituruli, six kilometres from Mukono Town on Kayunga road, in Mukono District.
They were found covered with dry grass in a water channel.
Nagirinya was the project manager at Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI), a Kampala-based non-governmental organisation. She got married in 2018 to Edgar Gateni. Together, they have been living a happy life.
Nagirinya’s car, a Toyota Spacio, Reg. No. UBA 570V was found abandoned at Kitooro Zone in Nateete, Rubaga Division on Friday morning.
Closed-circuit television camera footage reviewed by detectives, according to one source familiar with the inquiries, showed that the abductors drove from Busega to the city’s eastern Bweyogerere outskirts before proceeding to Kinawataka. Ronald Kitayimbwa,35, a Boda Boda rider from Nalumunye in Wakiso District, was also reported missing on Friday by his relatives.
No one claimed responsibility or made demands of ransom to their families. Police are yet to make a statement.
