KIGEZI REGION EXCITED BY FREE LAND TITLES, MANY PEOPLE TO JOIN MONEY ECONOMY- HON DAVID BAHATI

Most people in Kigezi region whose Land is the most fragmented in Uganda have a smile on their face after the government of Uganda started handing over free land titles that will improve their economic status.

Parliament Ndorwa West officiated at the handover 300 land titles to residents of Rubaaya and Kamuganguzi subcounties in Kabale District at the weekend.
Bahati said the government is protecting its people on their rights on land plus adding many to the money economy. A land title is equivalent to money as it can be transacted on in courts, banks, mortgage finance institutions and real estates agents.
He said its easy and possible using land to secure a loan and this removes the uphill battle our people have been going through with written agreemeents that cant be allowed by banks
The exercise to hand over free land titles processed by the government through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to local residents in Ndorwa East constituency Kabale district has started with 229 people receiving their land titles and the remaining balance to be
distributed by end of March 2020.
The sub counties to benefit from the pilot program will include Kitumba, Kamuganguzi and Rubaya and later to be roled out in the district and the region.
Bahati explained that one of the reasons of why the government decided to freely process land titles in Ndorwa West and other selected areas was to also reduce land conflicts where land has become source of conflict because of people not knowing exact boundaries of their pieces of
He said government has given free land titles for economic reasons to use them for security to get capital from financial institutions for economic enhancement.
Bahati said land should be used as a resource given to people by God that should be used optimally by avoiding land fragmentation but instead use it as a family as an asset in form of company to generate reasonable income and control domestic conflicts.
He urged the people of Ndorwa East to prevent all possible challenges that might contribute to soil degradation by terracing their land and focus st growing high value crops such as Irish potatoes, pepper, vegetables that can yield a lot from small pieces of land their own.
The chairperson Kabale district Patrick Keihwa Besigye said the land titles must have the names of husband and wife to ensure right security for being a family property.
He explained that if the parents want to incorporate children all children must be involved and sign not to have one and ignore others. Keihwa Besigye explained that the reason to involve all children is to claim collective ownership that being individual that will create more challenges that would be avoidable in the family.
He warned all those that received and who have land titles to avoid making money agreements with money lenders who usually write alleging that all money such shs 2,000,000= received cash when only shs 500,000= was offered eventually these money lenders taking away land fraudulently.
Innocent Musimenta said “I am very happy about bringing the computerized land services to Kabale district. The system is very good because i have a land title in my life time.. As you see I am disabled and elderly, and could not travel to Kampala and Entebbe to check or verify my land title. All the people I send were just eating my money. Now, I have seen it and can go home a happy man with no worries. Thank you Government led by President Yoweri Museveni and Hon David Bahati”.
