KABALE RESIDENT HELD OVER CHILD DESERTION

Anicent Natukunda, 20 is accused of delivering a baby and abandoning it in a cassava field.
She is a resident of Buhekyena village Karujaga parish Rubaya sub county Kabale district. 
The police picked her from home after being alerted by the locals alarmed by sudden disappearance of Natukunda’s pregnancy hours after the newborn baby was discovered by a village health team member, Asumpta Sanyu.
The baby boy was found crying in a polythene bag wrap.
Moved by the innocence of the previous baby, 42-year-old Sanyu covered him in her kitengi piece of cloth and took him to police at Katuna. 
She was then taken to to Kamuganguzi health centre three from where the baby was nurses and immunised before a transfer to Rugarama hospital for further care.
The Kigezi region police spokesman Maate Elly said upon her arrest and interrogation, Natukunda told police that she took the risky decision to deliver in a garden without a midwife’s help because the man who impregnated her during the Coronavirus lockdown has ditched her.
