Retired Supreme Court Judge and former member of the Judicial Service Commission Justice Alfred Karokora has died aged 82.
Karokora who contributed much to the selection and recruitment of Judicial Officers died on Friday of natural causes.
Karokora who first studied pharmacy at Mulago Hospital Para Medical School worked as a career Judicial Officer in the Judiciary for over 43 straight years.
He joined Nsamizi Law School for a Lay Magistrates Diploma Course after his pharmaceutical studies at Mulago.
He then graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and consequently joined the Law Development Center (LDC) for his Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
Between 1963 and 67, Karokora worked with Ankole Kingdom receiving in service training by Senior Magistrates in the kingdom’s Chief Judge’s Chambers.
He represented Uganda at the International Association of Refugee Law Judges’ conferences to which he was a member.
Karokora was born on November 5, 1936 and was Justice Emeritus.
He became Judge of the High Court of Uganda in 1984. Before this, he was Ag. Judge of the same court from 1981.
He was Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda between 1996 and 2006, retiring later in November of that year after 43 years of service.
