HON JIMMY AKENA WINS SECOND TERM AS UPC PRESIDENT, SWORN IN AT KASANGATI RESORT CENTER HOTEL

Hon Jimmy Akena, the Member of Parliament for Lira Municipality has been elected Uganda People’s Congress President for the second term. Four candidates picked forms to stand as President but only Jimmy Akena returned the forms after paying shs20 million.

The Chairman Party Electoral Commission, Hajji Kazimbaraine Mahmoud said Hon Jimmy Akena fulfilled all the requirements. They include getting support of at least a third of district conferences and be subjected to the delegates conference.

Hajji Mahmoud Kazimbaraine declared Hon Jimmy Akena after scoring 80 percent from all the district conferences. When his name was announced, the delegates unanimously supported his candidature.

Jimmy Akena was sworn in for the second term. In his acceptance speech promised to continue dialogue with UPC Members who are opposed to his leadership.

Akena said UPC wants to see Ugandans at the center of the economy. The economy must be felt by all Ugandans.

“Opportunities must not be for the few Ugandans but enjoy the resources as given to us by God. Uganda is a blessed country and its resources must be seen working for all Ugandans. Its my message to Ugandans”.

Akena said Ugandans continue to be fed on figures (statistics) but the quality of Ugandans does not match the numbers. We must make the right investments that will raise the future of Ugandans.
