Police have arrested impeached Kyambogo University guild president Jonathan Tundulu who lost a vote of no confidence at the university Guild Representatives’ Council (GRC) meeting yesterday at the university.
Tundulu has been arrested for what police are calling inciting violence among university students as he waits to hear the ruling in his appeal against impeachment.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire says the Guild and his two aides are currently held at Jinja Police Station.
Since Tundulu’s impeachment, Kyambogo University has been rocked with protests as students claim their guild president is being targeted by powers outside the university.
The situation has been worsened by rhetoric from People Power leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, who has blamed government for the impeachment of Tundulu, a member of the People Power pressure group.
“After beating the regime in so many guild elections, they resorted to intimidating and harassing these comrades. Now they are trying to remove them from office! Indeed, yesterday we witnessed the state machinated unseating of the People Power Guild President of Kyambogo University H.E. Tundulu Jonathan. All evidence, including audio recordings show that the GRCs and Guild Ministers were paid to carry out this impeachment” Kyagulanyi’s post on social media reads in part.
