You must be politically naive or digging a political hole to defy President Yoweri Museveni’s directives and Ministry of Health Standard Operating Procedures on COVID-19. Two videos are trending on social media showing National Resistance Movement supporters in processions.
A source says Security Agencies reviewed the video on sunday and their recommendations were passed over to NRM Secretariat and Cabinet will be briefed on Monday in the cabinet meeting.
We could not talk to Rt Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Uganda’s Prime Minister but Hon Justine Lumumba, the Secretary General of NRM addressed the media on the issue.
“No one is above the law, arrest them whether Ministers or not. District Police Commanders who don’t do their jobs well should not blame us. You must explain why you are not arresting these people”, Lumumba said
Hon Evelyn Anite, the MP Koboko Municipality and State Minister of Finance in Charge of Investment and Privatization denied organizing the procession or her team.
“The procession that has been widely viewed on social media was not a campaign rally. I did not organize it & neither did my Team. I was not even there!”, Anite said
She the spontaneous procession formed on the occasion of the delivery of the Ambulances for Koboko Municipality.
In response to recent videos circulating on social media of Ministers violating SOPs, State minister for ICT, Hon Ogwang said that “no person is above the law and that everybody including Ministers should operate within the confers of the law and guidelines.”
Hon Nobert Mao, the President General of Democratic Party said Look at the Koboko procession of Evelyn Anite.. it seems the Nrm people have no Covid or their Covid can’t be spread from person to person.
Mumbere Walter said Let me hope you are going to address the challenges your party (NRM)members are doing which contravenes with the Covid 19 guidelines of public gatherings in which most of the have failed to embarrass the likes of ;
Speke Mihela said that place looks familiar. It is in West Nile in a district called Koboko and the politician is none other than the Hon. Evelyn Anite. I pity those my poverty struck people; deceived by salt and food today but wake up hungry and taste tomorrow. Its absurd let’s keep praying for them.
It is very unfortunate , its unfortunate- Information and ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba on the ‘alleged rallies’ flouting COVID-19 measures by State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization Evelyn Anite. She was addressing the media on the other issues and asked to comment.
As the Country was taking time to understand one video, another video taken from Mbarara City to Sheema district had the former URA Customs Officer Kateshumba wave at supporters who welcomed him. Police tied to stop him but are seen negotiating with him, nothing happened.
“Kateshumba addressed media from his home blaming supporters who failed to follow Presidential Directives but not him. Am ready to explain at police but am innocent”, Kateshumba said.
Bruce Kyerere, the Resident District Commissioner said police was over powered because of numbers. They failed to use tear gas but arrested a few people. We might be forced to arrest Kateshumba.
Kateshumba said security should be careful because Sheema Municipality is a hot potato in politics that needs negotiation than using force.
