Africa: Sierra Leone workers trapped under rubble as building collapses on them

Construction workers in Sierra Leone’s second largest city , Bo have been buried under rubble after a building they were working on collapsed on them.

The three storey-block collapsed at about 14:00 GMT, Wednesday according to BBC’s West Africa correspondent Umaru Fofana speaking on the the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme this morning.

Sierra Leone’s south eastern police chief Saidu Kamara said 82 people had reported to work at the site when the building collapsed.

A colleague who had left the site to buy some food says about 50 of his colleagues could have been buried under the rubble.

By today, eight people had been rescued as the rescue efforts continue.

Excavators are working round the clock to save as many of the construction workers as they can.
