Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is tarmacking the Kabaka’s Lake road so as to boost cultural tourism and access to social services in Rubaga Division.

The KCCA Director of Engineering and Technical Services Eng. Justus Akankwasa said that the road that connects Lubiri Ring Road to Nabunya Road Ndeeba would improve access to the Kabakas lake which is a cultural, historical and tourism hotspot in the Buganda Kingdom.

He told Kigezi News in an interview that KCCA contracted Dott Services to construct the road that will also serve St Lawrence University, Lubaga Miracle Cathedral, garages and other businesses in the area. M/S MBW Consulting is supervising the project.

The Dott Services Project Manager, Eng. Dhanaraaju said that the completed road will have a bridge, covered drains, pedestrian walk ways and underground utility ducts to boost safety, trade and service delivery along the road.

The Engineer revealed that they are upholding safety precautions so as to minimize disruptions to the residents, traders and travellers.

The OC Lakeside Police Post, AIP Wilson Mwebaze said that the development of the road will add impetus to the fight against crime in the area.

He said that with a new paved road, Kabaka’s Lake will attract tourists and holiday makers who will boost trade and incomes for the residents of the area.

Located in Ndeeba, Kabaka’s Lake is the largest man made lake in Uganda. It was built by the 52 clans of Buganda to serve as an escape route for the Kabaka from British Colonialists.
