Kampala Capital City Authority is upgrading to tarmac the Mapeera Road in Rubaga Division so as to boost religious tourism in Uganda.
The Mayor of Rubaga Division, Mr. Zaacky Mberese Mawula said that the road serves St John the Baptist Mapeera Parish which is the cradle and ancestral home of the Catholic Church in Uganda.

He told Kigezi News in an interview that the tarmacking of the 1.6km road that connects the newly reconstructed roads of Nabulagala and Sentema, would boost tourism and pilgrimage to the church.
Fr Lourdel and Br Amans who brought the Catholic religion to Uganda, celebrated their first mass at Mapeera. A museum and a church were built at the place to immortalize that contribution.
The Mayor revealed that KCCA contracted M/S Dott Services who are constructing the road under the supervision of M/S MBW Consulting.

The Dott Services Project Manager, Eng. Dhanaraju said that the completed road will have covered drains, pedestrian walk ways and underground utility ducts so as to boost safety, trade and service delivery along the road.

The Engineer revealed that they are upholding safety precautions so as to minimize disruptions to the residents, traders and travellers.
One of the residents and a tour guide at Mapeera Catholic Parish, Mr Sebastian Ntaho said that the murram and uneven road had disoriented many tour operators from including Mapeera on the menu of religious attractions in Uganda.
He praised Dott Services for scheduling their civil works in area and time so as to minimize disruptions to traffic.
