Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is to reconstruct Bukoto Street and add a provision for walking lanes so as to promote non motorized transport in the Central Division.
The KCCA Director of Engineering and Technical Services Eng.Justus Akankwasa said the initiative is aimed at providing city dwellers and visitors with options to walk or jog as one of the ways of fighting Non Communicable Diseases.
Speaking to Kigezi News _ in an interview, Eng Akankwasa said that the road will also have drainage and parking facilities so as to improve the longevity of the road and the safety of the users.

The contract to reconstruct the 1.1km road was awarded to M/S Dott Services Limited.
The Dott Services Project Manager Eng. Dhanaraju said that the contractor is now facilitating utility service providers to relocate their lines so that civil works can begin.
Dhanaraju said that they are waiting for the employer KCCA to provide the final road designs so that they complete the works within the 18 months contract period.
One of the land lords on the street, Mr. Amos Bagyenzi, noted that the reconstruction of the road last undertaken in the colonial era, will improve rental values and living experiences in the area.
