Ministry of Health promised to Upgrade Two Health Centers in Kazo District,
On 3rd June 2025, Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary commissioned Engari HCIII in Kazo District . This newly constructed health facility will help bridge a critical gap for the surrounding communities, who previously had to walk long distances to access healthcare services.
“These facilities represent a transformative leap forward in our healthcare system—bringing quality, accessible care closer to our communities and ensuring that every Ugandan has the opportunity to lead a healthy, productive life.” she said.
Ministry of Healthhas unveiled plans to elevate Kyengando Health Center II and Engari Health Center II in Engari Sub County in Kazo District to health center III status two years which they delivered.
The Health Ministry, Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwiine revealed the move during her visit to the district.
She explained that the move is in line with the policy of the Health Ministry and NRM manifesto, which seeks to stop expectant mothers from walking for more than 5 kilometres to access Antenatal Care services.
She says that they will construct a maternity ward, staff quarters for health workers and deploy doctors to the two health centers.
The two facilities are more than 30 Kilometers apart and serve a population of over 1000 residents from 15 villages.
Kyengado Health centre was built in 2018 after residents raised Shillings 22million and bought land, which they offered to the government for the construction while Engari Health centre was constructed in the 1990s at the Sub County headquarters.
Apollo Babigumira and residents of Kyengado, say that they have for long wanted the government to upgrade their health centre.
Doreen Mushabe, a mother of two who often visits Kyengando health centre, says that she is hopeful that the facility will provide them better health services compared to the ones that they currently receive.
